Biography

Ana Cristina Costa is Associate Professor at NOVA IMS, and Head of SIMAQ Quality Management System. She has a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (Technical University of Lisbon). The main scientific research area is spatial statistics, particularly the modelling of spatial-temporal phenomena using geostatistics. She has more than eighty refereed scientific publications, including a book, articles in international journals, and conference proceedings. Ana Costa has lectured over a dozen short courses in statistics topics, as well as courses on SAS System programming. She collaborated in several research and development projects, both national and international, and she coordinated the GSIMCLI research project funded by FCT (Portuguese Science Foundation).

Biography

Georgios Douzas holds a PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics by the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests are machine learning theory and applications, deep learning and reinforcement learning. His work has been published in several journals, such as The European Physical Journal, Expert Systems with Applications and Information Systems.

Biography

Leonardo Vanneschi is a Full Professor (Professor Catedrático) at the NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. His main research interests involve Machine Learning, Data Science, Complex Systems, and in particular Evolutionary Computation. His work can be broadly partitioned into theoretical studies on the foundations of Evolutionary Computation, and applicative work. The former covers the study of the principles of functioning of Evolutionary Algorithms, with the final objective of developing strategies able to outperform the traditional techniques. The latter covers several different fields among which computational biology, image processing, personalized medicine, engineering, economics and logistics. He has published more than 200 contributions and he has led several research projects in the area. His work has been consistently recognized and appreciated by the international community from 2000 to nowadays. In 2015, he was honoured with the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Evolutionary Computation in Europe, in the context of EvoStar, the leading European Event on Bio-Inspired Computation.

Biography

Guilherme Hidalgo Victorino is an invited Professor of Marketing, Innovation and Change Management at NOVA Information Management School(NOVA IMS) and a career of more than 12 years in senior Marketing positions in telecommunications, media and healthcare industries. He holds a degree in Marketing Management from Instituto Superior de Comunicação Empresarial, an Advanced Course in Health Management at INSEAD in Fontainebleau - France and is a certified Design Thinker and Change Manager coach. His area of research is Brand Trust and Service Design. He’s a PhD candidate in Information Management at NOVA IMS, working on the study of patient behavior towards hospital choice. Main research areas include the study of the antecedents of TRUST, including the impact of brand authenticity, service incidents and word of mouth on customer choice.

Biography

Fernando Bação is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS). He holds a Ph.D. in Information Management from NOVA University of Lisbon and currently holds the positions of President of the Pedagogical Council and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Statistics and Information Management. In his scientific career, he has published more than six dozen scientific articles in national and international magazines and conferences and received awards for the quality of his work. His research focuses on the topics of information management, business analytics, decision support systems, and information systems management.

Biography

Marco Painho is currently Fulll Professor of NOVA Information Management School(NOVA IMS).

Coordinates the Master of Science Program in Geospatial Technologies (Eramus Mundus) and the Master in Geographic Information Systems and Science.

Research interests include Geographic Information Systems, Natural resource Information Systems, Information Integration, Crowed Sourced Geospatial Information, Spatial Analysis, GIS Education and Information Infrastructures.

He holds a Bachelor degree in environmental Engineering by the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, a Master of Regional Planning (MRP) by the University of Massachussetts, a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography (Ph.D.) by the University of California and Habillitation Geographic Information Systems by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

He was NOVA IMS'Director between 2000 and 2010.

He is the author and editor of over 160 publications including books, boks chapters, papers and articles in national and international conference proceedings.

Has coordinated over 80 research and develpment, consulting and international cooperation projects.

Has had the following duties: Member of the scientific Committee of the European Environmental Agency Portuguese representative of the Thematic cooperation group: Earth Monitoring and Observation(IV Framework Program - environment and cliamte) Member of the Management Board and Steering Committee of the european Topic Centre for Nature Conservation, Paris.

Biography

Mário Caetano is Principal Researcher at Direção-Geral do Território (DGT), where currently he is Deputy Director General, and Associate Professor in NOVA IMS. His research interests are focused on geographic information production and management, including satellite image processing and spatial analysis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He is author of more than 150 publications in books, journals and conference proceedings.

Mário Caetano has acted as national delegate in many international committees, e.g. Steering Committee of the European Space Agency (ESA) Earth Observation Program, European Monitoring Committee for the Earth (Copernicus), Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and H2020.

Biography

Mauro Castelli was born in Lecco (Italy) on April 18th, 1984. He earned his Bachelor degree cum laude in Computer Science by the University of Milano Bicocca in 2006 with a thesis in the field of Bioinformatic and his Master degree cum laude in 2008 with a thesis that bring together the field of Evolutionary Computation and the field of oncological research. He completed a PhD degree in Computer Science by the University of Milano Bicocca in 2012. He participated in different projects and he has active collaborations with leading academic institutions. He spent one semester at the University college of Dublin in the Natural and Computing Research Application group, where he started an innovative work in the field of Genetic Programming. He also collaborated with INESC-ID in Lisboa in the Knowledge Discovery and Bioinformatics (KDBIO) group, where he is involved in the EnviGP project financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia of Portugal. He has collaborated and has an open collaboration with the Department of Pathology of Stanford University. He is involved in a project, financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia of Portugal, with the Champalimaud foundation, aimed at defining state-of-the-art techniques for the analysis of cancer-related images. He is the responsible of the GADgET project, financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia of Portugal, that aims at defining artificial intelligence techniques in the context of online gambling addiction detection. He was the chair of the main European Conference on Genetic Programming (EuroGP) and he is in the editorial board of Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines journal. He participated in the program committee of several international conferences and he is a reviewer for top-tier journal in the area of Artificial Intelligence. From the academic year 2006/2007, he has also covered the position of assistant lecturer for different graduate and undergraduate courses at the University of Milano Bicocca, University of Bergamo, and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. His current area of scientific activity is in the field of computer science. In particular, he is working in the following areas: Evolutionary Computation, Genetic Programming, Genetic Algorithms, Swarm Intelligence, Machine Learning, Soft Computing, Deep Learning and Neuroevolution.

Biography

Miguel de Castro Neto is Assistant Professor and Associate Dean at NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) where he is President of the Pedagogical Council and Coordinator of the Post-Graduation in Smart Cities.

He was Secretary of State of Spatial Planning and Nature Conservation in the XIX and XX Portuguese Government.

Smart Cities Personality of the Year (Green Business Week 2017 / Fundação AIP).

Founder and Vice-President of the Data Science Portuguese Association he is presently President of the Portuguese Engineers Professional Association Agronomy College, coordinator of the Group Cities and Spatial Planning in the think tank Sustainable Growth Platform and President of the Festival Terras Sem Sombra Curators Board. He is founding-partner of the company Agriciência, Consultores de Engenharia, Lda.

He develops his research and teaching in the field of Business Intelligence and Smart Cities.

From his scientific work have resulted, amongst others, articles published in scientific journals such as Computers in Industry, International Journal of Accounting Information, Journal of Global Information Management, International Journal of Electronic Commerce Studies, Industrial Management & Data Systems.

In the context of its teaching activity he was inviteed professor at Universidade Polítecnica de Madrid (Espanha), Tomsk University (Rússia) and Universidade de Cabo Verde, among others.

Biography

Pedro Cabral is Associate Professor at NOVA IMS. He got a PhD Applied Mathematics to Social Sciences at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, France. He was a post-doc Researcher at UMR AMURE (Ifremer-UBO, Brest) where he worked in marine and terrestrial ecosystem services. His research interests are Ecosystem Services and Geographical Information Systems. He has published in academic journals, such as Ecosystem Services, Marine Policy, Land Use Policy, Journal of Urban Planning and Development (ASCE), Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, Environmental Development, Natural Hazards, Int. Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing, among others. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Urban Planning and Development (ASCE) since 2011. He has reviewed 76 papers for 28 journals. Recently, Pedro is leading projects related to Ecosystem Services (ASEBIO - funded by FCT) and open educational contents related to applied geomatics to social and environmental issues (GEONATURA – Funded by Erasmus +).
