José Alferes | Pro Rector at Universidade Nova de Lisboa
José Júlio Alferes coordinates the area of IT and Digital Transformation at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Since 2010, is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia/Universidade Nova de Lisboa, after being an Associate Professor since 2000. He is a researcher, and director of the Artificial Intelligence Centre of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (CENTRIA). From February 2005 to September 2007, he was the co-ordinator of the degree in Informatics Engineering at FCT/NOVA. From September 2009 to September 2011 he was the Head of the Computer Science Department. Since then he is the Vice-Dean of FCT/NOVA.
His main, research interests are within the area of Artificial Intelligence. More specifically, his interests have been focused on Logic Programming, Non-Monotonic Reasoning, Knowledge Representation, Model Based Diagnosis. Recently, a great part of his research work is directed towards the problem of Knowledge Base Updates and on Evolution and Reactivity in the Semantic Web this latter topic being the main focus of a working group of the EU project Rewerse, which he coordinated. He wrote over a hundred papers; and coordinated several projects on these subjects. He also organized some conferences and served in editorial boards of journals and programme committees of conferences in these areas.
