ESRI, a leading international company in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, gathered municipalities, universities, and businesses in Portugal to delve into how technology can contribute to smarter and more sustainable cities.
A remarkable case of best practices is the Smart Region project, an integrated analytical platform for territorial intelligence developed by NOVA Cidade - Urban Analytics Lab and implemented within the Inter-Municipal Community of the West. This project recently received the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award in the U.S., outperforming over 100,000 competing entities. The presentation was led by Miguel de Castro Neto, Director of NOVA IMS and founder and coordinator of NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab.
In an interview with TVI, he elaborates on how modern technologies, analytical capabilities, and generative artificial intelligence can now be leveraged in the pursuit of territorial cohesion.
