Biography
Henrique Lopes is the Director of the NOVA Center for Global Health. Since 2009, he has held leadership positions in scientific research at higher education institutions, having started as a coordinator in 1996. His main research interests include Health Education, Public Health Policy, Digital Health, Pandemic Preparedness and Response, and Vaccination.
He is a member of the Mission Board Vaccination Europe, the ASPHER task force for Health Emergencies, and participates in its subgroups on Vaccines, War, and Health Data. He collaborates with the World Health Organization in various areas and was awarded the Cross of Saint George by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces for his contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the field of health education, he is a Board Member of the World Committee on Lifelong Learning (Paris), a UNESCO Health Education Specialist (Hamburg and Paris), an expert for the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (Hamburg), and an individual member of the UNESCO Chair in Global Health Education (Paris).
He was President of the Sectoral Commission for Health Quality (2012–2022) and Scientific Chairman of the World Health Education Forum (2022). He coordinates several European projects focused on the digitalisation of decision-making in infectious disease public policies. He is the author of 17 books and over 200 technical, pedagogical, and scientific publications.
