At today’s meeting, July 22nd, the Institute's Council elected Professor Miguel de Castro Neto for the 2022-2026 term, whose mandate, with the slogan "Data with Purpose", will begin on September 1st.

Professor Miguel de Castro Neto is currently sub-director and coordinator of several Postgraduate and Master programs at NOVA IMS. He is also founder and coordinator of NOVA Cidade - Urban Analytics Lab, a laboratory dedicated to smart cities and urban analytics, and scientific director of the Smart Campus Living Lab at the NOVA University of Lisbon. He was Secretary of State for Spatial Planning and Nature Conservation in the XIX and XX Governments and Smart Cities Personality of the Year 2017 (Green Business Week/Fundação AIP). He is Counselor Member of the Order of Engineers, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lisboa E-Nova, Lisbon Energy Agency and member of the Platform for Sustainable Growth. Throughout his career he founded and was Vice-President of the Data Science Portuguese Association, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Terras Sem Sombra Festival and Chairman of the Technical and Scientific Council of Vissaium XXI - Association for the Development of Viseu. 

Business Intelligence and Smart Cities are the main areas in which he develops his research and educational work, with emphasis on the Master in Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence of NOVA IMS, classified by the international ranking Eduniversal, for the 4th consecutive year, as the best Master in Business Intelligence and Strategy in the world, where he is the coordinator and lectures the Business Intelligence curricular units.
